Ann Clemens

ann-clemens

Ann has always been a creative person as long as she can remember, always into some craft or other, sewing and pattern making, printing & dying, freehand machine embroidery and felting.

Ann completed her BVA at JCU with a major in photography, she then went on to produce a range of cloth dolls that she put out as patterns and traveled around Australia and New Zealand teaching ladies how to make dolls.

Glass has always fascinated Ann, so when she discovered that she could make glass beads and use them to enhance her then felted embroideries, Ann set about trying to find out how to make them. After purchasing a kit from the first Australian Bead & Gem show Ann was able to pursue her dream and is totally self taught.

Ann now lives just out of Port Arthur in Tasmania. Ann finds inspiration all around her in this beautiful environment, whether it be the magnificent cliffs that surround the coastline, the lovely bay that her house overlooks with its sea views and shore birds or the natural bush. "There is nature and beauty everywhere", says Ann.

For Ann making beads is a meditative experience and she loves experimenting with colour and trying different colour combinations. Ann can see bead making will be with her for the 'long haul', "there are just SO many possibilities!".
