Jenni Wiseman

Jenni spent the early years of her life in Victoria, both in the rural and urban areas.  From her early years, she enjoyed dance, music, art, craft, jewellery making, drama and poetry.

She has always felt an affinity with nature and enjoys being both at the beach and exploring bushland.  In her late twenties, she moved from Victoria to the Northern Territory and spent fourteen years in Katherine, enjoying activities such as boating on the Katherine River and camping and bushwalking.  She also became involved in Katherine’s amateur theatre group and the Territory Arts and Crafts Councils.  She began learning about textiles during workshops with the Crafts Council and subsequently submitted items to exhibitions in Katherine and sold many pieces of material and clothing, which she had dyed, printed and sewn.  As time went by Jenni found herself as a single mother, so her skills came in handy when making clothing with an individual flair, for her daughters and later her granddaughter.

Jenni was employed as a Primary School teacher and administrator for many years both in the Territory and interstate.  During a protracted illness when she was unable to go out to work, her interest in jewellery making was rekindled.  As she began to produce her pieces, she was encouraged by friends to explore jewellery making as a career. What started as a therapeutic outlet, became a passion for Jenni.  She feely admits that she is “hooked” now and recently commenced making her own sterling silver wire coiled beads as well as making jewellery. She is basically self-taught, but has attended beginner courses on silver smithing and jewellery making.  She intends to develop her skills by completing more workshops on silver smithing and intends to try her hand at lampwork bead making and creating beads from precious metal clay in 2009.

Jenni now lives in Darwin and resides there with her teenaged daughter and two of her loyalist supporters – her little dogs, Ichabod and Wombat.

Jenni feels blessed to be invited to join the team of artisans at Northcoast Beadmakers.  She looks forward to developing her creative skills and refining the quality of jewellery pieces.
